HIGHLAND FOOTBALLER FINED FOR PUBLIC INDECENCY IN ABERDEEN
Cameron Heslop, aged 24 and currently playing for Huntly FC, has been fined after admitting to a charge of public indecency during an incident in Aberdeen. He appeared before Aberdeen Sheriff Court, confessing to exposing his penis while on Union Street last year.
According to court records, shortly after midnight on September 8, Heslop was observed walking from Union Street to Bon Accord Street and stopping in front of a stationary police van at traffic lights.
Officer Kirsty Martin reported that Heslop was seen walking in front of the police vehicle before stopping to face it, then pulling down his trousers and exposing his penis with a smile.
Four police officers in the van saw this; one exited and instructed Heslop to stop.
A short foot pursuit ensued, and Heslop was later caught in Summer Street, where he was cautioned, arrested, and charged.
Heslop pled guilty to a charge of public indecency involving the exposure of his penis; the allegation of sexual intent was dropped.
His defense attorney, Gregor Kelly, stated that there was no sexual element involved and described the incident as ‘misguided horseplay,’ attributing it to Heslop's intoxication from vodka during a night out with friends.
Kelly explained Heslop had a vague recollection of the events, thinking he only bared his buttocks, and was shocked and mortified upon learning the truth the following morning.
Sheriff Rhona Wark fined Heslop £500, calling his behavior ‘rank stupidity’ and ‘alarming,’ adding that it was ‘entirely unacceptable.’ The sheriff emphasized the police's difficult work and expressed hope that Heslop would not repeat such conduct.
