CORNWALL MAN GETS LIFE FOR KILLING GRANDMOTHER IN REVENGE
Cameron Dancey-Stevenson, 27 years old, was convicted and sentenced for the killing of his grandmother, Alison Stevenson, at her home in Helston, Cornwall.
Reports indicate that he broke into her residence in May 2021 and used a kitchen knife to attack her in her bedroom.
The jury reached a guilty verdict on a Tuesday, and Judge Simon Carr sentenced him to life in prison during a hearing at Exeter Crown Court the following day, setting a minimum term of 18 years.
It was revealed during the trial that Dancey-Stevenson’s violence was motivated by revenge after his grandmother called the police due to a breach of a restraining order against him.
A family member's victim impact statement described the assault as brutal and expressed ongoing shock and grief, highlighting the deep love they all shared for Alison Stevenson, who was ultimately killed by her grandson, someone she loved dearly.
Following the murder, Dancey-Stevenson attempted to destroy evidence by spending three hours washing his clothes, and he falsely accused another man of committing the crime, denying his own involvement.
The court heard that the killing was the result of years of his grandmother trying to support him through mental health challenges.
The offender will remain in a secure hospital until fit for transfer to prison.
Detective Chief Inspector Lee Nattrass expressed his sadness over the tragic loss experienced by Alison Stevenson’s family and friends.
