CAMERON CASSON SENTENCED IN LANCASTER FOR CRUELTY TO DOG

Cameron Robert James Casson, also known as Cameron Bulger, born on May 1, 2000, and residing at 4 Mount Avenue, Skerton, Lancaster LA1 2EF, was convicted in 2022 for cruelty to his pet dog, Cali.

The case revealed that Casson, the son of a notorious, now deceased lifelong criminal and drug addict Danny Casson, allowed his dog to be hit by a slow-moving train.

Cali, a 10-month-old dog, was wandering without a lead at Bare Lane Station in Morecambe when she was struck.

An eyewitness at the scene described seeing Casson, a father of one, punching the dog on the station platform.

This witness also reported that Casson had tried to tie a jumper around Cali’s neck to serve as a makeshift lead and had attempted to drag her by the skin of her neck when she was reluctant to follow him.

Another eyewitness observed Casson punching Cali in the face and head multiple times with considerable force.

Prior to the incident, Cali was found to have suffered broken ribs for which Casson had not obtained veterinary care.

When she was later picked up by a dog warden and taken to a vet in Lancaster, she received treatment for wounds to her back and tail, bruising around her eye, and oil contamination in her fur.

An expert veterinary report by Dr.

Sean Taylor indicated that Cali’s injuries, including lacerations and oil contamination, were consistent with having been struck by a train.

X-rays revealed two bilateral rib fractures, believed to have occurred between mid and late June 2021.

Casson claimed ignorance about how the injuries could have happened, suggesting only that the dog might have fallen from a rope swing.

Dr.

Taylor concluded that the fractures indicated high-force blunt trauma and were unlikely accidental.

A witness statement from RSPCA Inspector Amy McIntosh detailed Casson admitting to slapping Cali when she tried to reboard a train.

Casson reportedly told the inspector, “You can’t do nowt for slapping a dog,” and later chased Cali onto the tracks after she attempted to get back on the train.

The court was informed that Casson has a history of convictions for robbery and assault and suffers from mental health issues and a lack of maturity.

Since her ordeal, Cali has made significant progress under the care of boarding kennels, with staff preparing to find her loving new owners.

In sentencing, Casson received an eight-week prison sentence suspended for 12 months, a £128 victim surcharge, and a twenty-year ban on keeping animals.

Additional background revealed that Casson’s brother, Callum Lee Casson, is a self-described “top dog man” and a violent career criminal.

When not engaged in criminal activities, Casson is known to persecute wildlife using dogs trained to attack.
