JEALOUS EX CAUSED HAVOC STALKING TERRIFIED WOMAN AND AMBUSHING NEW BOYFRIEND

A man responsible for a brutal assault and stalking was sentenced in Exeter Crown Court after he broke into his former partner's residence and assaulted her new boyfriend.

Callum Hawker, aged 29, launched a violent attack inside the living room, punching, kicking, and threatening to kill the man.

During the incident, when the ex-partner attempted to intervene, Hawker grabbed her by the neck and pushed her against a wall.

Court proceedings revealed that Hawker was unable to accept the end of their four-year relationship.

Following their breakup, Hawker engaged in a month-long campaign of stalking, which involved tracking her whereabouts and letting her know he was aware of her movements.

The defendant, from Wareham Road in Hawkchurch, pleaded guilty to charges including stalking, actual bodily harm, and assault, leading to a prison sentence of two years and eight months.

Prosecutor Peter Coombe explained that in December of the previous year, the ex-partner became suspicious that Hawker was monitoring her.

Evidence showed he had previously used a tracking device and had sent messages indicating her locations.

His anger intensified upon discovering her new relationship, and he warned her, saying, 'When I find out who your new little boyfriend is I’m going to kill you both.' The stalking behavior persisted for about a month, culminating in an attack on her new partner at her home in Morebath, Exmoor, on December 28.

Hawker reportedly 'jumped out' at the victim in the living room and proceeded to punch him in the face, continuing the assault with further punches and kicks while he was on the ground.

During the attack, he also shouted derogatory insults at his ex-partner, calling her a ‘c***’ and a 'slag.' In her victim statement, she expressed that the events had caused her significant emotional and psychological trauma, leaving her feeling unsafe in her own home and fearful of another intrusion.

She stated, 'I believe he is a risk to himself and me.' Her new partner shared that he had no prior knowledge of Hawker and believed he was going to die during the incident, feeling helpless and fearing for his life, worried that Hawker might pursue him.

Legal representative Rachel Smith noted that Hawker was devastated by the breakup and described him as a person with a previously good character who had recently completed a cocaine awareness course.

Justice James Patrick highlighted that Hawker could not accept the breakup, noting there were eight separate incidents of stalking.

He also detailed how Hawker had entered the victim’s home through an unlocked window and lied in wait before attacking her partner and physically assaulting both victims.

The judge issued a six-year restraining order preventing Hawker from making contact with the victims.
