FLITWICK TEEN CALLUM COOPER SENTENCED FOR ONLINE SEXUAL GROOMING IN BEDFORDSHIRE AND BEYOND

A disturbing case of online grooming and exploitation has culminated in the imprisonment of Callum Cooper, a 19-year-old from Flitwick, who engaged in heinous acts involving underage boys across multiple regions in the United Kingdom. The investigation, carried out by Bedfordshire Police, uncovered a pattern of predatory behavior that targeted vulnerable children, leading to Cooper’s conviction and subsequent sentencing.

Cooper’s malicious activities began with him establishing contact through various online personas on Instagram, where he initiated conversations with groups of boys. These interactions were not isolated incidents but part of a calculated effort to manipulate and exploit young victims. The victims, all aged between 12 and 13 years old, resided in different parts of the country, including Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, and Lancashire, highlighting the widespread reach of Cooper’s online grooming scheme.

Using a combination of threats, promises of gang affiliation, and offers of gifts, Cooper coerced these boys into performing sexual acts on camera. His tactics were designed to instill fear and dependency, ensuring compliance from his victims. The investigation revealed that Cooper employed multiple online identities and phone numbers to maintain contact with his victims, making it difficult for authorities to track his activities initially.

In January 2020, law enforcement officers from Bedfordshire’s Internet Child Abuse Investigation Team (ICAIT) executed warrants at two addresses linked to Cooper. During these raids, digital devices were seized and thoroughly examined, providing crucial evidence that linked Cooper to the crimes. At the time of the offenses, Cooper was only 16 and 17 years old, which added a layer of complexity to the case.

Cooper eventually pleaded guilty to 17 counts of inciting a boy to engage in sexual activity and two counts of making indecent images of children. His guilty plea was entered before Luton Crown Court, where he was sentenced on Thursday, January 13. The court handed down a prison term of five years and four months, reflecting the severity of his crimes.

In addition to his imprisonment, Cooper was subjected to a sexual harm prevention order that will remain in effect indefinitely. He was also placed on the sex offenders register for life and issued a restraining order to prevent contact with his victims. These measures aim to protect the victims and prevent any further harm.

DS Graeme Twyford, who led the investigation, expressed his satisfaction with the outcome, stating, “I am immensely proud that our investigation has been able to secure justice for the victims in this case and their families, as well as putting this sickening individual behind bars for a long time. Cooper preyed on vulnerable children and used horrific tactics to scare, groom and intimidate his victims, including playing some of the victims off against one another with threats of violence.”

Investigation Officer Paul Baddeley emphasized the importance of community vigilance and parental awareness, saying, “Working this case through has involved hearing some really traumatic testimony from parents, and I cannot commend them and the victims themselves enough for their bravery. Our specialist investigators are dedicated to keeping children safe from sexual predators like Cooper. However, it is a sad reality that these people are out there on popular social media platforms looking for their next victim. There is lots of information out there around how to stay safe online, but it is of the utmost importance to talk to your children about these issues, be curious about who they are speaking to online and ensure they have the confidence to come and talk to you if they are worried about something.”
