COUNCIL CHIEF EXECUTIVE DENIES RAPE ALLEGATION AND FACES COURT TRIAL
CONWY Council's chief executive, Byron Davies, has been charged with a serious criminal offence. He appeared at Llandudno Magistrates Court where the charge of rape was read out to him.
Davies, who was 52 years old at the time, stood impassively in a sober outfit while the charge was announced.
Outside the court, Davies expressed his denial of the allegations, with his solicitor James Humphrys stating: "My client has had his world turned upside down by this allegation.
He vehemently denies any offence and will fight to establish his innocence at the Crown Court in due course." The alleged offence took place at an address in Deganwy between March 23 and 24 of that year.
Davies was temporarily relieved of his duties at the council following his arrest, and was later bailed to an address in Devon.
The court granted him bail on condition that he does not enter Conwy, contact the complainant, or enter any Council offices in Conwy County.
Mr.
Davies only confirmed his name and address during the short court hearing, and was dressed in a dark grey suit, white shirt, and a spotted tie.
The case was scheduled for further hearing at Caernarfon Crown Court on July 30.
Davies had previously been appointed as the chief executive of the council since February 2009, coming from Cornwall where he held a similar position.
The council appointed Ken Finch as acting chief executive while Police investigations continued.
The incident raised significant concern, and the case continues to develop as legal proceedings take their course.
