BRYAN GREGORY FROM MINSTER ON SHEPPEY JAILED FOR BREACHING COURT ORDER AND HIDING DEVICES
Bryan Gregory, a resident of Minster on Sheppey, has been sentenced to prison after a series of violations related to his status as a registered sex offender. Gregory, who previously pleaded guilty at Canterbury Crown Court in 2014 to charges of creating and possessing indecent images of children, was subject to a stringent court order known as a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO).This order was imposed to restrict his behavior and control his access to digital devices and the internet, aiming to prevent any further offenses or misconduct. Among its provisions, Gregory was required to make all digital storage devices available for police inspection upon request, and he was under regular surveillance and visits from law enforcement officers to ensure compliance.
However, during a routine police visit in January, officers grew suspicious of Gregory’s activities, particularly regarding his use of a mobile phone. The suspicion was that he had used the device in a manner that violated the terms of his court order. As a result, the officers seized the mobile phone for further examination. Subsequent investigations revealed that Gregory had been in breach of the court order, leading to his arrest.
Further searches of Gregory’s residence uncovered additional digital storage devices, which were confiscated by police. These devices were believed to contain material that was in violation of his court restrictions. On Saturday, September 14, Gregory was formally charged with making indecent images of children and breaching the terms of his SOPO.
He subsequently pleaded guilty to both charges, acknowledging his misconduct. His sentencing took place on Tuesday, January 21, at Canterbury Crown Court, where he was handed a sentence of four years in prison. Additionally, upon his release, Gregory will be subject to a further four years on license, meaning he will be under supervision and subject to certain conditions during that period.
Detective Sergeant Vicky Whitmill commented on the case, emphasizing the seriousness of Gregory’s actions. She stated, “Gregory’s disturbing behaviour – together with the complete contempt he demonstrated in breaching the terms of his court order, which was in place to protect vulnerable children – means it is right that he is behind bars.
Proactive and regular checks are carried out on sex offenders to ensure they are complying with the requirements to which they are subject. Where breaches are found to have occurred, offenders will be arrested and brought before the court to take accountability for their actions.”
