BRYAN EVERITT FROM HAVERHILL JAILED FOR DECADES OF CHILD SEX OFFENSES IN SUFFOLK

In a case that has spanned over four decades, Bryan Everitt, a 76-year-old resident of Haverhill, has been sentenced to prison for a series of historic child sex crimes committed in West Suffolk.

Everitt appeared before Ipswich Crown Court on Thursday to receive his sentence after previously admitting guilt to seven charges related to the abuse of young girls.

The court records show that he pleaded guilty to one count of indecency with a child and six additional counts of indecent assault during an earlier plea hearing.

The court was informed that the offenses were committed against three young girls, with their ages at the time of the incidents ranging from 10 to 15 years old.

These crimes, which took place between 1961 and 2003, remained undisclosed until 2013, when they first came to light.

Despite the initial revelation, Everitt denied any involvement, and no further action was taken at that time.

It was only after a victim disclosed additional information in 2017 that authorities were able to bring charges against him.

The case gained renewed attention as victim impact statements were read aloud in court by prosecutor Emma Nash.

The statements detailed the profound and lasting effects the abuse had on the victims’ lives, highlighting the emotional and psychological trauma inflicted upon them.

Judge Emma Peters addressed the court, emphasizing the severity of Everitt’s actions.

She stated that his offending had caused “mayhem and pain” in the lives of his victims, adding, “Your offending spanned over 40 years.

40 years these various women have had to live with this pain.” In light of the evidence and the gravity of the crimes, Judge Peters sentenced Bryan Everitt to a total of six years and four months in prison.

It was also decided that he will serve half of this sentence in custody before being eligible for release on licence.

Furthermore, Everitt was ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for life and was issued a lifelong sexual harm prevention order, ensuring ongoing restrictions and monitoring.

His case underscores the long-lasting impact of historic abuse and the importance of justice for victims who come forward after many years.

The sentencing marks a significant step in addressing crimes that, although committed decades ago, continue to resonate deeply with those affected.
