At Selkirk Sheriff Court, a man identified as Bryan Drum from Galashiels was sentenced for a violent assault that left a woman with serious injuries and lasting disfigurement. The incident took place on September 30 of the previous year at Drum's residence on Broom Drive, where a heated argument escalated into physical violence.

According to court reports, the altercation was triggered by a dispute over Drum's drinking habits. During the confrontation, Bryan Drum pushed the woman with enough force to cause her to fall and sustain a head injury. The impact resulted in a significant wound that required stitches, and the woman was left feeling dizzy and shaken after the assault.

Medical examinations confirmed that the injury caused permanent scarring, with a two-inch scar remaining on her head as a visible reminder of the attack. The court was also informed that the victim did not wish to pursue a non-harassment order against Drum, which influenced the court's decision.

Drum, aged 36, pleaded guilty to the charges, acknowledging his role in causing the injury and disfigurement. The court opted for a sentence of 90 hours of unpaid community work, emphasizing rehabilitation over incarceration. There was no mention of imprisonment or additional penalties in the court's ruling, highlighting a focus on restorative justice for the victim.
