BRUCE COOK SENTENCED IN GORING FOR HISTORIC CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE CASE

In February 2015, Bruce Cook, a 71-year-old man from Goring, was handed a six-year prison sentence after being found guilty of multiple charges related to historic child sexual abuse.

The conviction was delivered at Chichester Crown Court, where Cook faced nine counts that included indecent assault and attempted buggery.

These charges stemmed from the abuse of a boy and a girl during the 1970s, specifically between the years 1973 and 1978.

Both victims, who were children at the time, were abused at a residence located in Goring.

The male victim, now aged 48, chose to come forward publicly in the wake of the Jimmy Savile scandal, which had brought to light numerous cases of child abuse and prompted many survivors to speak out.

His decision to confront Cook in later life was driven by a desire to seek justice and to highlight the long-lasting trauma inflicted upon him.

The judge presiding over the case took into account Cook's advanced age, health issues, and physical disabilities when determining the sentence.

Nonetheless, the court emphasized the severity of the crimes committed, noting the profound damage caused to the victims and the betrayal of trust involved.
