84-YEAR-OLD PENSIONER JAILED FOR LONG-TERM SEXUAL ABUSE OF YOUNG GIRLS
A paedophile pensioner named Brian Nixon, aged 84, has been sentenced to 54 months in prison after being found guilty of sexually assaulting two young girls over a period of several years between 2016 and 2023 in the Gunnislake area.During a sentencing hearing at Truro Crown Court, the victims shared the profound impact Nixon's abuse had on their physical and mental health.
One victim bravely read her victim impact statement, revealing she had felt suicidal for years and now finds relief knowing Nixon will serve time.
She expressed her fears and suffering, stating, "I'm scared of older people.
I don't like men.
I don't like hugging people.
I don't go out.
I have an eating disorder and trouble sleeping.
I suffer from panic attacks.
I am grateful that you will be away for long enough for me to grow up and move on." She further said, "You stole my childhood.
I will never forgive you for what you did to me and my family.
I will never get my childhood back." The other victim also testified through her own statement, describing ongoing struggles with mental health, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, and self-harm, stating, "I have self-harmed as a way to feel something because I feel nothing.
You stole 12 years of my childhood.
I will never forgive you.
I have to carry this for the rest of my life." Nixon's barrister explained that since being remanded in prison, he has not been able to work due to his age and spends most of his time in his cell, making prison a tough experience.
Judge James Adkin acknowledged Nixon’s previous good character but noted his age would make imprisonment more difficult.
Nixon was sentenced to four and a half years in prison and will be listed on the sex offenders' register for 20 years, along with sexual harm prevention and restraining orders for the same duration.
