In a significant case that has shocked the community of Dereham, 77-year-old Brian Heyhoe has been sentenced to six years in prison after being found guilty of multiple charges related to the sexual abuse of young girls. The offences, which spanned from 1995 to 2002, involved a total of 16 counts of indecent assault committed against two minors.

Heyhoe, a resident of Clifton Terrace in Dereham, was brought before Norwich Crown Court where he pleaded guilty to all charges. The court proceedings revealed the disturbing details of his misconduct, which had remained hidden for years before coming to light. The sentencing took place on a Friday, marking a decisive moment in the pursuit of justice for the victims.

Detective Constable John Carr of Norfolk Police expressed his satisfaction with the outcome, emphasizing the importance of delivering justice for those affected. He stated, “This sentence is a good result for the victims of Heyhoe and hopefully will put an end to their ordeal.” He further highlighted the police force’s commitment to tackling child abuse cases, noting that Norfolk Police has a dedicated team of investigators specializing in crimes involving minors.

Det Con Carr also acknowledged the difficulties victims face in coming forward, underscoring that the police are committed to investigating all reports, regardless of how much time has passed since the offences occurred.
