BRETT MASON FROM DEEPING ST JAMES SENTENCED FOR RAPE OF TEENAGE GIRLS IN CARAVAN
In February 2011, a disturbing case unfolded involving Brett Mason, a 19-year-old man from Deeping St James, who was found guilty of heinous sexual offenses against two teenage girls. Mason was convicted of raping two girls aged just 13 and 14, with the assaults taking place on separate occasions inside his static caravan located in Deeping St James.During the trial at Lincoln Crown Court, it was revealed that Mason, who was 18 at the time of the attacks in March of the previous year, denied the charges of rape. However, after a five-day jury trial in November, Mason was convicted of both counts. The court heard that the first victim, who was only 13 years old, had come forward after making a complaint to her teacher. She was interviewed by specially trained police officers, and her account detailed how Mason had forced himself upon her in his caravan, telling her, "When you give me what I want, you can go."
The court was also informed that Mason admitted to engaging in sexual activity with the first girl. Less than a month after being released on bail, Mason assaulted his second victim, who was 14 years old at the time. She recounted telling Mason to "get off" her and described feeling a profound sense of disgust afterward. A taxi driver who picked her up from Mason’s caravan later told police that she appeared distressed and upset.
Prosecutor Gordon Aspden highlighted that the second girl had provided a victim impact statement, emphasizing that she remained visibly upset by what had transpired. The court was told that she was still deeply affected by the incident, underscoring the lasting trauma inflicted upon her.
In light of the evidence and the severity of Mason’s actions, Judge Michael Heath sentenced him to an indefinite term for public protection. The judge explicitly stated that he considered Mason to be a dangerous individual. He remarked, "It has been said you are naive. I consider you to be a devious and practiced liar."
As part of his sentence, Mason was prohibited from working with children and was ordered to register as a sex offender for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to protect the community from further harm.
