BEDLINGTON MAN CAUGHT WITH SICK IMAGES OF KIDS ON MOBILE AVOIDS JAIL
A pervert has narrowly avoided imprisonment after being found in possession of a disturbing collection of child sex abuse images on his mobile device.
Bradley Somerville, aged 29, from Ravensworth Street in Bedlington, downloaded these images using the messaging service Kik over a three-year span between 2019 and 2022.
Police seized his phone when he was arrested in November 2022, revealing a total of 19 illicit images, including four of the most serious type involving penetrative sexual activity.
Court proceedings stated that during police investigations, four Category A images, five Category B images, and ten Category C images were discovered on his phone.
Prosecutor Paul Anderson highlighted that the images were downloaded after Somerville was sent a link to them, emphasizing that the guideline for Category A images is a 12-month custody sentence.
Despite the severity of the images, Somerville, who has no previous convictions, pleaded guilty and expressed remorse.
His solicitor, Paul Dunn, informed the court that Somerville had deleted the images upon realizing their content.
The magistrates sentenced him to eight months in prison, suspended for two years, and ordered him to complete 40 hours of unpaid community service, acknowledging his guilty plea and remorsefulness.
