Darlington Domestic Abuser Emotional/Psychological
Bradley Richmond, a man with a troubling history of violence and assault, has been the subject of multiple serious incidents in Darlington. His past actions include a brutal attack on his former girlfriend in 2016, which left her with lasting physical and emotional scars. According to court reports, Richmond went through her phone during their relationship, an act that triggered his violent outburst. He then stabbed her directly through the hand, causing permanent nerve damage that necessitated plastic surgery. The victim, who came forward last year after their breakup, recounted the harrowing experience during her court testimony. She described how the attack not only left her with a visible scar but also inflicted deep psychological wounds. She stated, “I will carry the scar from Bradley’s attack on my hand for life, along with the permanent nerve damage he has caused. Along with the physical impact, Bradley’s abuse has had a significant impact on my mental health. I have had to take leave from my workplace due to my mental health; this has impacted me financially which is something that I am already struggling with. The fact that Bradley has not pleaded guilty to an offence he knows he has done has dragged out my healing process and I can’t help but feel this is on purpose so I cannot move on.”
In addition to this violent assault, Richmond was involved in a separate incident of extreme violence outside a pub in Darlington on July 8, 2023. On that night, Richmond, who was heavily intoxicated and without a fixed address, engaged in a drunken altercation with another man along with his brother. During the confrontation, Richmond held the man down and bit off his ear. Despite emergency surgery, surgeons were unable to reattach the severed ear. The incident shocked the local community and highlighted Richmond’s dangerous tendencies.
Following these events, Richmond appeared before Teesside Crown Court last week, where he was sentenced to a total of 11 years and nine months in prison. An additional three years were added to his sentence on extended license, reflecting the seriousness of his crimes. PC Tony Ayre from the Darlington Safeguarding Team described Richmond as “a violent and dangerous individual,” emphasizing that the lengthy custodial sentence was appropriate given the severity of his actions. The court, along with the victim, acknowledged Richmond’s pattern of violent and abusive behavior, which has caused significant trauma and ongoing emotional suffering for those affected. The sentencing underscores the community’s recognition of the need to protect the public from individuals like Richmond, whose history of violence continues to have devastating consequences.
