PAEDOPHILE JAILED FOR BREACH OF COURT ORDER AND POSSESSION OF INDECENT IMAGES

A man from Isleham, Bobby Schmedeman, has been given a suspended prison sentence after being found guilty of violating a court order by not disclosing electronic devices to authorities.

Schmedeman, aged 44, was approached by police at his home in Isleham, near Ely, around 3 PM on December 9 last year.

His prior conviction in June 2017 for possessing indecent images of children led to the imposition of a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).

This order mandated that he provide police access to internet-capable devices upon request and report new devices capable of internet access within three days.

When police asked him to surrender his internet-enabled gadgets, Schmedeman claimed he only owned an Xbox.

However, officers found evidence showing he also had an Apple device and an iPad.

They later searched his bedroom and discovered an iPad, a Samsung tablet, and a mobile phone, all of which were not disclosed initially.

During the search, they also found a sword, a knife, a flick knife, and claws designed for his hands and feet.

A laptop that he hadn’t declared was also recovered.

Subsequent examination of the iPad and Samsung tablet revealed 27 illegal images depicting children.

Police returned to his residence on 22 May this year and seized additional devices he had not previously disclosed.

On 6 December, Schmedeman appeared at Cambridge Crown Court where he was sentenced to 14 months in prison, suspended for two years.

He admitted to possessing indecent images of children, breaching his SHPO eight times, possessing a flick knife, and three counts of keeping offensive weapons in private.

DC Andrew McKeane stated, “This case reflects our commitment to uphold court orders designed to protect the public.

Schmedeman is well aware of his responsibilities under the SHPO, and I hope this sentence serves as a warning to others.”
