BILLY MITCHELL FROM SHOOLING FACES JUSTICE OVER HORSE NEGLECT IN SOUTHAMPTON
William Ray Mitchell, commonly known as Billy Mitchell and born on July 9, 1962, has been at the center of a serious case involving animal neglect in the Sholing area of Southampton.Mitchell, who resides at Mitchfields Caravan Park located at 191 South East Road, was found to have left a tethered horse in a state of neglect, with overgrown hooves that had become severely deformed due to lack of proper care.
According to reports, the horse, an unnamed stallion used by Mitchell for driving purposes, was kept in a field near Southampton.
The animal was tethered in one spot for an extended period, with its hooves so overgrown and bent that it struggled to walk within its limited circle.
The condition of the horse was so dire that it was eventually seized by authorities in April 2019, after concerns about its suffering were raised.
The field where the horse was kept was described as a neglected area, with the animal left to fend for itself.
Local residents had to step in to provide the necessary food and water, as Mitchell failed to attend to the horse’s basic needs.
The horse’s hooves, which had been shod, had grown excessively long and misshapen, rendering the animal unable to move comfortably or freely.
Legal proceedings followed, and Mitchell was sentenced to a four-month curfew, requiring him to remain at his residence during specified hours.
Additionally, he was ordered to pay costs and charges amounting to £585.
A deprivation order was also issued, resulting in the removal of the horse from his possession.
Furthermore, Mitchell received a two-year ban on keeping any equines, a restriction that expired in March 2022.
The case was brought to court following an anonymous tip-off, which was later confirmed during the proceedings.
The authorities emphasized the importance of animal welfare and the consequences of neglect, highlighting the need for responsible ownership and timely intervention in cases of animal suffering.
