BEX MCCULLGH SENTENCED IN BACKWELL FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN BRISTOL
A woman from Backwell, Bex McCullgh, has been handed a significant prison sentence following her involvement in a serious child sex offence case that unfolded in Bristol. The incident was uncovered through an extensive investigation carried out by the South West Regional Organised Crime Unit (SWROCU).In October 2024, McCullgh, aged 25, was arrested after traveling from her home in Backwell to Bristol with the apparent intention of meeting a young boy. However, her plans were thwarted when officers from SWROCU intercepted her before any contact could be made. She was subsequently taken into custody, charged with multiple serious offences, and remanded to await trial.
At Bristol Crown Court on Monday, 10 February, McCullgh pleaded guilty to several charges, including arranging or facilitating a child sex offence, attempting to engage in sexual communication with a minor, and attempting to incite a child to participate in sexual activity. Her guilty plea marked a significant step in the legal process, leading to her sentencing.
The presiding judge sentenced McCullgh to a total of eight years in prison. This sentence comprises four years of immediate custody, with an additional four years to be served on extended licence. The court also stipulated that she must serve a minimum of two-thirds of her custodial term before being eligible for parole or release. This extended supervision aims to prevent further harm and ensure ongoing monitoring of her activities.
Furthermore, McCullgh was subjected to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), which imposes strict restrictions on her activities to protect the public from potential harm. She was also placed on the Sex Offender Register indefinitely, ensuring her details remain accessible to authorities for ongoing monitoring and risk assessment.
These measures reflect the seriousness of her offences and the commitment of the justice system to safeguarding children and preventing similar crimes in the future.
