The renowned poet and writer Benjamin Zephaniah has admitted to physically assaulting a former girlfriend. During an interview on BBC Radio 5 live with Nihal Arthanayake, Zephaniah revealed that he had hit his ex-girlfriend. He expressed regret over his past behavior, stating that he treated some of his previous girlfriends in a 'terrible' way. He explained that he has since changed his attitude towards women as a result of becoming more politically active, advocating for social justice and campaigning against racism. Zephaniah also discussed how his father had beaten his mother, which influenced his perspectives. His autobiography, 'The Life and Rhymes of Benjamin Zephaniah,' which reflects on his life and views, is set to be published in the UK this week.
