LYDNEY MAN JAILED FOR 12 YEARS AFTER RAPE AND COERCIVE CONTROL
A 35-year-old man from Lydney, Benjamin Timmins, was handed a 12-year imprisonment after being convicted of two rapes during a trial at Gloucester Crown Court in September. He was also convicted of controlling and coercive behaviour, assault, and witness intimidation.
During the offenses, Timmins used a false name to meet the victim, who was wanted by police, and took money from her bank account with assurances of repayment.
When challenged, he insulted her intelligence.
The victim was subjected to an assault involving a chokehold that caused her to lose consciousness, and she was raped on two separate occasions.
While in custody, Timmins continued to threaten and manipulate her through letters, warning her she would face trouble if she 'snitched.' He refused to attend the court hearing for sentencing.
Detective Constable Emma Jackson stated that Timmins showed no remorse and persisted in intimidating the victim, and the Crown Prosecution Service commended the bravery of the victim for reporting the crimes and ensuring justice was served.
Following his conviction, he will be registered as a sex offender for life and will undergo a three-year supervision order after his release from prison.
