BIRMINGHAM SEX ATTACKER BENJAMIN O’MEALLY JAILED FOR LIFE AFTER RAPING VICTIM NINE TIMES
An investigation is currently in progress following a severe incident involving Benjamin O’Meally, aged 51.He was characterized as an 'unremittingly evil' sex offender who committed nine rapes against a woman, despite being released twice by the court system after breaching his Sex Offences Prevention Order on three occasions.
O’Meally’s criminal record dates back to his first sexual assault when he was 14 years old, and includes a 1998 conviction for kidnapping and raping a mother of three.
His criminal history also encompasses multiple offences, such as additional rapes, kidnapping, indecent assault, and false imprisonment.
Although he was under strict supervision by probation services and police, including a Sex Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) and monitoring as a level three offender through Mappa, he repeatedly violated these restrictions.
The courts had previously released him early from prison, reasoning that he had completed two-thirds of his sentence and was being properly supervised.
Nonetheless, after his releases in 2007 and 2008, he reoffended, assaulting a vulnerable woman nine times over a two-month period, with several attacks occurring on a canal towpath.
In September, at Wolverhampton Crown Court, O’Meally received a life sentence.
Judge Hilary Watson described him as a 'wholly dangerous individual' responsible for 'extreme sexual violence,' and ordered that he serve a minimum term of nine years and nine months.
The police have launched an internal review of how his supervision and case management were handled, highlighting that despite extensive efforts, he was still able to groom and attack his victim.
Chief Inspector Mark Payne referred to O’Meally as a 'manipulative, deceitful predator' and an 'evil man, unremittingly evil.'
