Newbury Child Sexual Abuser
In July 2017, Barry Skinner, a 34-year-old from Gaywood Drive, Newbury, was convicted of multiple child sexual offences. He was accused of attempting to encourage a girl aged between 13 and 15 to engage in sexual activity. Skinner believed he was grooming a young child for sex, but he was caught by the online child protection team, Total Exposure.

The court heard that after Skinner's arrest, police conducted a search of his residence and analyzed his computer. They discovered that, alongside conversations with a decoy from Total Exposure, he was also attempting to groom a real girl aged 13 for sexual purposes.

Although a trial was set for November, Skinner pleaded guilty to all charges after prosecutors presented overwhelming evidence. Having been on remand since May, he was sentenced to a total of three years and four months in prison. Additionally, Skinner was issued a sexual harm prevention order and was ordered to register as a sex offender.
