Stretford Sexual Abuser
In April 2022, a disturbing case emerged involving Barry Doyle, a 71-year-old retired tool maker from Stretford, who was convicted of a series of heinous crimes against a young girl. Doyle's actions included grooming, sexual assault, child abduction, and the production and possession of indecent images, revealing a pattern of predatory behavior that spanned several months.

According to court proceedings, Doyle targeted a vulnerable girl, manipulating her into sending him explicit selfies during a prolonged abuse ordeal. He used these images as leverage, threatening to share them with others unless she submitted to further sexual demands. Doyle's chilling words to her were, “You have to behave,” as he exerted control over her through intimidation and coercion.

It was revealed that Doyle had become obsessed with the girl, taking her out on trips in his car without her parents' knowledge. The court heard that he would take her shopping trips to the Trafford Centre, among other outings, to maintain his grooming and control. The police investigation uncovered that Doyle had given her six different mobile phones, some of which he used to film himself molesting her. Authorities also found a sex doll at his residence, along with a bag containing multiple pairs of young girls’ underwear, indicating a disturbing pattern of sexual interest and possession.

Further investigation uncovered Doyle’s criminal history, including a conviction from 1981 for indecent assault. In that earlier case, he had paid another girl to strip before attacking her, demonstrating a long-standing pattern of predatory behavior.

The victim in this case was described as 'extremely reluctant' to disclose her ordeal, suffering from severe embarrassment and anxiety as a result of Doyle’s abuse. Her emotional distress was evident, and her school performance was affected, although she has shown some improvement since her arrest.

At Minshull Street Crown Court, Doyle pleaded guilty to 14 charges, including sexual assault, inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, child abduction, and making and possessing indecent images. The prosecution, led by David Bentley, detailed how Doyle engaged in grooming behavior, giving the girl multiple phones to facilitate communication and control her actions. Messages sent by Doyle ranged from affectionate terms like “babe” to questions about her underwear, illustrating his manipulative tactics.

It was also revealed that Doyle would often call the girl to pick her up in his car, once even collecting her from school. Police found three pairs of girls’ underwear in his vehicle during the investigation. The girl admitted to sending around 20 explicit images at Doyle’s behest, with specific naked poses found on four devices. She explained that she was doing these poses for Doyle, who threatened to share the images with others if she did not comply, causing her significant emotional distress.

During police interviews, Doyle denied any wrongdoing, falsely claiming that some of the images were of a sex doll. Authorities also imposed strict restrictions on Doyle, including an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order, mandatory registration on the Sex Offender Register, and a restraining order preventing him from contacting the victim.

Judge Tina Landale sentenced Doyle to seven and a half years in prison. In her remarks, she condemned his exploitation of social ties to prey on a vulnerable girl, highlighting his pattern of grooming and manipulation. The judge emphasized that Doyle’s actions were driven by a clear sexual interest in children, with little remorse or insight into the harm caused. She described him as a dangerous offender, noting the high risk of serious harm he poses to children and the persistent nature of his offending behavior.
