MAN JAILED FOR LIFE FOR PARTNER'S MURDER IN WALWORTH
A man responsible for fatally assaulting his partner and mother of their four children with a hammer, then setting her on fire by dousing her with fuel, has been handed a life sentence at the Old Bailey.
Julie Beattie, aged 24, succumbed to critical burns at her residence in Walworth, southeast London, on July 19 of the previous year.
The perpetrator, Ashley Williams, aged 49, was found guilty of murder and received a minimum term of 25 years in prison.
During the trial, it was revealed that Williams attacked her with a hammer and later ignited her after discovering she intended to leave him.
Detective Inspector Sharon Marman described the incident as 'horrific' and 'extraordinarily cruel,' emphasizing that Williams’s brutal act robbed his children of their mother and that he would bear the emotional weight of his actions for the remainder of his life.
