BOVINGDON MAN SENTENCED AFTER KILLING MOTHER AND ATTEMPTING TO MURDER FATHER
In 2021, a man from Bovingdon named Ashley Howse, who was 35 years old at the time, was involved in a serious incident that resulted in the death of Julia Howse, aged 61, due to fatal stab injuries. He faced charges of her murder as well as the attempted murder of his father during the same event.
Howse later admitted to manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility in relation to Julia's death and also pleaded guilty to attempting to murder his father.
On October 9, Monday, Howse appeared before Cambridge Crown Court, where he was sentenced to be detained under a Section 37 Hospital Order with a Section 41 Restrictions Order, under the Mental Health Act.
The case was investigated by the Major Crime Unit covering Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Hertfordshire, following reports of a disturbance on Austins Mead on December 11, 2021.
Despite the efforts of police and medical personnel, Julia Howse was declared dead at the scene, having sustained fatal stab wounds.
Detective Chief Inspector Sam Khanna offered condolences to Julia’s family, recognizing the time that has passed since the incident but highlighting the lasting grief they endure.
The guilty plea by Howse was accepted following a psychiatric assessment conducted earlier that year.
The legal outcome aims to bring some closure to the family as Howse was detained under mental health legislation.
