MAN JAILED FOR CHILD SEXUAL TOUCHING IN WILLOUGHBY WATERLEYS
A man from a Harborough village has been sentenced to five years in prison after being convicted of sexually touching a seven-year-old girl.Ashley Carnell, aged 52, of Main Street in Willoughby Waterleys, was also ordered to register as a sex offender following his sentencing at Leicester Crown Court.
The investigation was initiated after the young victim bravely disclosed the abuse to her parents, who then contacted the police.
Detective Constable Kamran Kalia explained: “It was after the victim became upset and her parents realised something was wrong, that they had a gentle conversation with the victim which led to the victim bravely telling her parents about what had happened.
Her parents immediately made contact with the police.
It was crucial to approach the suspect properly, ensuring the victim's welfare was central.
The police prioritized not only convicting the offender but also supporting the brave child and her family during this distressing time.
The investigation confirmed the allegations, and Carnell was found guilty.
The court sentenced him to five years imprisonment and placed him on the Sex Offenders Register.”
