2013:DUDLEY MAN WHO NEEDED A HUG JAILED FOR KICKING PARTNER IN RIBS
A DUDLEY man who kicked his former partner in the ribs causing a lung to collapse after she refused to give him a hug has been jailed for 16 months.Arthur Duffy had been out drinking with Nicola Perry and they argued when they returned to their home, Wolverhampton Crown Court was told.
The 31-year-old asked her for the hug and when she declined he became violent and dragged her into the living room by her hair.
Howard Searle, prosecuting, said Duffy kicked Miss Perry hard to her left side as well as in the face and she suffered a collapsed lung which had to be inflated at hospital.
Recorder Nigel Daly told Duffy as he ruled immediate custody was the only appropriate sentence: "People can be killed by being kicked in the face the way you did to Miss Perry." Duffy, of Occupation Street, admitted the attack and the Recorder further made him the subject of a restraining order forbidding him from having any contact with his ex-partner.
Bernard Porter, for Duffy, told the court it was clear alcohol was behind the attack adding: "It caused him to behave the way he did."
