ARCHIE SPENCER AND REBECCA GUY FROM WOLVERHAMPTON CONVICTED FOR CRUELTY TO FOUR-MONTH-OLD KITTEN

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Wolverhampton, both Archie Spencer and Rebecca Guy have been found guilty of heinous animal cruelty involving their four-month-old kitten, Wolfie.

The incident, which took place over a span of nearly three months, culminated in the tragic death of the young feline due to the severity of his injuries.

Archie Spencer, born on December 11, 1998, and standing at just 5 feet 2 inches tall, was accused of subjecting Wolfie to repeated acts of violence.

Over the course of approximately two months, Spencer inflicted multiple injuries on the defenseless kitten, including broken ribs and a fractured skull.

The severity of Wolfie’s injuries was such that he was eventually taken to a veterinary clinic with a critical head injury.

Despite medical intervention, the injuries proved fatal, and the vet made the difficult decision to put Wolfie to sleep to end his suffering.

The RSPCA was alerted to the case following the series of injuries, prompting an investigation that led to Spencer’s prosecution.

During his court appearance at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court, Spencer pleaded guilty to two animal welfare offences.

His partner, Rebecca Guy, born on November 11, 1999, also appeared in court and admitted to a single offence of failing to protect the kitten from pain and suffering.

The court proceedings revealed that between January 25 and March 28, 2018, Wolfie endured numerous injuries while in the care of the couple, who are parents to a three-year-old child.

Rebecca Guy was the first to take Wolfie to the veterinarian, reporting a head injury.

Over the following weeks, the kitten was brought in on two more occasions, each time with increasingly severe injuries.

On one visit, Wolfie was found to have five broken ribs, and on the final visit, he was diagnosed with a horrific skull fracture that extended from one side of his head to the other.

The veterinarian, upon examining Wolfie, determined that the injuries were so severe that euthanasia was the most humane option.

Video footage taken by the vet showed Wolfie in a state of near collapse, reacting painfully when touched, indicating he was in significant distress.

An X-ray later confirmed the extent of the skull fracture.

The vet described Wolfie’s condition as truly heartbreaking, noting that the young kitten had suffered immensely in his brief life.

The vet’s account painted a grim picture of the suffering endured by the innocent animal, who was only four months old.

Inspector Kate Parker from the RSPCA commented on the case, stating, “The pair had always denied harming the cat, however in court Spencer took responsibility for the injuries to Wolfie – although we will never know what actually happened.

What we do know is on three occasions Guy took the cat to the vets with serious injuries, each time claiming they were accidental.

On the third and final occasion, the cat was clearly badly injured.

The vet took some video showing poor Wolfie who looks barely alive and when she touched him he reacts, which demonstrates he would have felt pain.

That is when the decision was made to end his suffering and later an X-ray revealed his horrific skull fracture.

Poor Wolfie was only four months old and in that short life enjoyed so much suffering and pain – it is horrendous to think what he went through.

In the end, he was barely alive and breathing in his own blood, it was truly awful.” Regarding sentencing, Archie Spencer was sentenced to 12 weeks in jail and received a lifetime ban on keeping animals.

Rebecca Guy received an eight-week jail sentence, suspended for one year, along with a 10-year ban on owning animals, which will expire in December 2028.

Both individuals were ordered to pay costs and charges totaling £524 each.

The case has left a lasting impact on the community and highlights the importance of animal welfare and the need for vigilance against cruelty.
