APPEAL FOR MAN WHO PERFORMED INDECENT ACT IN FRONT OF SCHOOLGIRLS AT GATWICK AND EMSWORTH

In October 2012, British Transport Police (BTP) launched a serious appeal for information following a disturbing incident involving a man who exposed himself and engaged in an indecent act in front of two young schoolgirls. The incident occurred on a train traveling between Gatwick Airport and Emsworth, with the suspect boarding the train at Worthing station.

According to investigators, the two 14-year-old girls had initially boarded the train at Gatwick Airport. During the journey, they observed a man get on the train at Worthing station and take a seat across the aisle from them. It was not immediately apparent what the man was doing, but shortly thereafter, the girls realized that he was exposing himself and performing an indecent act while deliberately looking at them. The distress caused by this incident was significant, and the victims were understandably upset and shaken by the experience.

Detective Constable Tony Bronger, the officer leading the investigation, explained that the suspect then disembarked the train at Emsworth station. Despite efforts to identify him, including speaking to witnesses and circulating CCTV images through police intelligence systems, authorities have so far been unable to establish his identity. To aid in the investigation, police have released CCTV images of the man, hoping that members of the public may recognize him.

DC Bronger emphasized the importance of community assistance, stating, “We believe the incident took place on a busy train service, so there may be witnesses who saw something that could help us. The actions of this man were completely unacceptable, and we want to ensure he is identified and held accountable.”

He further urged anyone with any information, no matter how minor it may seem, to come forward. The police are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who might recognize the individual in the images or who has relevant information about the incident.

Individuals with information are encouraged to contact British Transport Police via their Freefone number at 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference B5/LS of 18/10/2012. Alternatively, tips can be provided anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111. The police stress that all information, regardless of perceived significance, could be crucial in bringing the perpetrator to justice.
