HULL PENSIONER JAILED FOR CHILD INDECENT IMAGES
A 77-year-old man named Anthony Sumpton from Ellerburn Avenue, Hull, was found to possess a collection of indecent images of children.
Police raided his home after receiving information about suspicious online activity, seizing multiple devices including two mobile phones and two laptops.
Examination revealed a total of 56 images and videos categorized into severity levels, with the most serious Category A containing 56 items, along with additional images in Categories B and C.
Sumpton, who admitted to three charges of making indecent images of children on November 30, 2021, expressed remorse and recognized that the crime was not victimless, acknowledging that real children were depicted in the images.
During court proceedings at Hull Crown Court, the prosecuting lawyer, Marc Luxford, stated that police acted on information received and found the images on multiple devices.
Sumpton, who had no previous convictions, made no comment during police interviews.
His mitigation, Hannah Turner, described him as 'naive in his ways' but now remorseful, sharing his shame for his actions.
The judge, Tahir Khan KC, acknowledged his guilty plea and significant remorse but sentenced him to a 10-month suspended prison term, 30 days rehabilitation, a 10-year sexual harm prevention order, and required him to register as a sex offender for 10 years.
