AMESBURY MAN JAILED FOR NINE YEARS AFTER RAPE
A man has been jailed for nine years after raping a woman when he gave her a lift home.Anthony Donald Raymond, 33, of Amesbury, was sentenced at Winchester Crown Court on Friday after a week-long trial.
Jurors heard he detoured to a remote spot on 4 March 2022, forcibly removed the woman's clothing and raped her.
Officers on a routine patrol came across the incident and Raymond fled the scene.
The trial heard evidence from the victim and officers, with body-worn camera footage also being played in court.
Det Con Martyn Powell from Wiltshire Police said he hoped the sentence would encourage others who had suffered sexual violence to report incidents to the force.
He added: "I would like to praise the victim in this case for having the courage and conviction to see this through a difficult 18 months and a week-long trial." Raymond will also be on the sex offenders register for life.
Wiltshire Police has reminded people that sexual offences can be reported no matter how much time has passed.
