ANTHONY DEAR SENTENCED IN ST ALBANS FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES INVOLVING YOUNG GIRL

In a significant legal development at St Albans Crown Court, Anthony Dear, an 80-year-old man from St Albans, was formally sentenced to a lengthy prison term for a series of heinous child sex offences.

The court heard that Dear, who is also known by the nickname ‘Danny’, was convicted of a total of 23 counts encompassing rape and sexual assault, all linked to a single female victim.

These disturbing charges stem from a prolonged period of abuse that spanned four years, during which the victim was between the ages of 11 and 15.

The court was told that Dear repeatedly assaulted her during this time, causing profound harm and trauma.

Anthony Dear was sentenced to 15 years in prison, with an additional three years on licence, meaning he will be under supervision after his release.

This sentence is to run consecutively with a previous sentence Dear received in January 2022, when he was jailed for six and a half years after being convicted of similar offences against another girl.
