LANARKSHIRE MAN JAILED FOR ASSAULTING PARTNER AND BREACHING BAIL
A serial domestic abuser who punched and bit his partner has been jailed for 18 months.Anthony Bucknell was also banned from any contact with the woman under a three-year non-harassment order.
Bucknell, 35, of Shotts, was sentenced at Hamilton Sheriff Court this week.
He admitted assaulting the woman and acting in a threatening or abusive manner towards her at her home in Craigneuk, on July 27.
Bucknell also admitted breaching bail conditions by being in the area only four days after he was released from custody in August, reports LanarkshireLive.
Katie Allen, prosecuting, said trouble flared when the woman asked him to leave her home around 7am.
Bucknell was under the influence of alcohol and being noisy and aggressive as she tried to sleep.
Ms Allen told the court: "The accused became irate and started punching the victim on the head.
She fell into a foetal position on the floor and crawled into a corner, pleading with him to stop.
But he continued to assault her then grabbed her arm and bit her.
She was able to grab her phone and ran into the bathroom where she called the police.
"When officers attended they saw a large bite mark on her arm." Bucknell has previous convictions for domestic abuse involving the same woman.
In 2022 he was jailed for 16 months for two assaults on her.
Defence agent Stephen MacBride said "overindulgence in alcohol" was a problem for his client.
Passing sentence, Sheriff Kevin McCallum told Bucknell: "There is no alternative to custody, given your record and the nature of these offences.
This was a nasty assault."
