MOTHER PLEADS GUILTY TO HAMMER KILLING OF HER DAUGHTER IN STONEHOUSE
A mother, Ann Dunn, 36, has admitted to killing her five-year-old daughter, Erin Gilmour, and severely injuring another child in a brutal hammer attack. The incident occurred at their home in Stonehouse, Lanarkshire, on September 25 of the previous year.
Dunn pleaded guilty at the High Court in Glasgow to culpable homicide on the grounds of diminished responsibility.
The court heard that Erin's skull was fractured by more than a dozen blows to the head during the attack.
Dunn also admitted assaulting a 10-year-old girl, who is not named for legal reasons, at the same time as the assault on her daughter.
The court was informed that Dunn's condition was severe, suffering from a major depression, and she was still coming to terms with her actions.
During the proceedings, Dunn remarked, "I killed them, I don't want to be here anymore." She was transferred to the State Hospital at Carstairs for mental health assessment, and her case was adjourned until May 1.
The court ordered her detention pending further review.
