Essex Rapist
2007.

.A general practitioner was found guilty of drugging and sexually abusing two women he met via an online marriage bureau. A mature student was contacted online by Anil Tangotra, who had a practice in Plaistow, east London, and extended an invitation to visit London in April of last year. He gave her a drink that she thought might have been tampered with after he got her back to his house in Ilford, and when she became strangely exhausted, he raped her.

A little more than a year later, Tangotra targeted a teacher, after which she is known to have met several other women through the agency. She told the police that she was sexually assaulted by him after he gave her what she believed to be orange juice, but she was able to escape before he could rape her. Judge William Kennedy informed him: "Given what I have seen and heard about you, I would sentence you to years and years in double digits in prison if I were to do so now.".

"I won't do that, though. In order to decide whether an indeterminate sentence for public protection is necessary, I need to know how much of a continuous threat you are to the public." The 53-year-old general practitioner (GP) is currently facing being struck off after serving an 18-month suspension from the General Medical Council (GMC).
