OFFENDER SENTENCED AFTER RAPE AND CHILD INDECENT IMAGES DISCOVERED
Andrew Shaw, aged 37, was convicted and sentenced for his horrific crimes, which included drugging and raping a vulnerable woman he met on the dating website Plenty of Fish.
The victim, 29 years old and living with mental health issues, was subjected to a brutal assault after Shaw sent her threatening messages, indicating his plans to commit rape and even film the assault.
He had previously met her for consensual sex but later assaulted her when she was under the influence of drugs and liquid aphrodisiac.
The court heard that Shaw's behavior was depraved, violent, and selfish, demonstrating no regard for his victim's well-being.
Moreover, police found indecent images and videos of children on Shaw's phone, including Category A, B, and C images, as well as prohibited materials.
The victim's suicide occurred shortly before she was due to appear in court regarding these events.
Shaw pleaded guilty to possessing indecent images and to two counts of rape, which occurred in June 2016, two months after the victim's death and prior to his trial.
The judge described Shaw as dangerous and sentenced him to 14 years in prison, with a minimum custodial term of 10.5 years and a 3.5-year extended license period.
