ANDREW SHAW CAUGHT FILMING GIRLS AT MERSEYSEINE SWIMMING BATHS IN SEACOMBE AND WALLESEY
In a disturbing incident that has shocked the local community, Andrew Shaw, a 20-year-old resident of Demesne Street, Wallasey, was caught in the act of secretly filming two 16-year-old girls as they changed in the unisex cubicles at Guinea Gap Baths, a popular swimming facility located in Seacombe, Wallasey.According to reports, Shaw was in the adjacent cubicle when he placed a small black video camera on the floor between the stalls. One of the victims, after completing her swim, noticed a hand adjusting the device and looked down to see the camera. Recognizing the potential invasion of her privacy, she immediately exited the cubicle and confronted Shaw. He initially denied ownership of the device and even offered to destroy it, but the girl’s suspicion led her to report the incident to the staff.
Authorities were promptly notified, and police seized the camera as evidence. When officers visited Shaw’s residence, he appeared to anticipate their arrival, indicating prior knowledge of the investigation. During questioning, Shaw confessed to filming the girl on multiple occasions, as well as another 16-year-old girl, over a span of three months. He admitted to capturing videos of both victims in states of undress, which police later recovered and confirmed contained footage of the girls in various stages of undress.
At a hearing before Wirral magistrates, Shaw pleaded guilty to two counts of voyeurism. Prosecutor Amanda Cullen detailed that police had recovered eight videos showing the girls in compromising situations. Shaw admitted that his motivation was sexual gratification, although he claimed he did not engage in any sexual acts while viewing the footage on his computer. When questioned about his reasons, Shaw reportedly stated that he “got a kick out of not getting caught.”
The court was informed that Shaw was granted bail until November 14, pending the preparation of a pre-sentence report. As part of his bail conditions, he was ordered not to contact the victims or witnesses, to avoid entering public changing areas or recreational sports facilities, and was prohibited from possessing any electronic recording devices. This case has raised serious concerns about the safety of young females in the community and highlights the importance of vigilance in public spaces such as swimming baths.
