CUFFLEY MAN JAILED FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER OVER INHERITANCE
Andrew Oliver, aged 56 and from Cuffley in Hertfordshire, was given a 23-year prison sentence after attempting to murder a family member in connection with her inheritance. The court was told that on 20 January, Oliver assaulted a woman in her seventies over a span of nine hours at her residence, repeatedly pulling her back each time she tried to escape.
The attack occurred during freezing temperatures, and Oliver dismissed her offers of money to stop, instead demanding her inheritance.
He struck her head against the concrete pavement as she was leaving her home, rendering her unconscious and leaving her outside in the cold while he continued to move in and out of her property.
She was eventually able to reach a neighbor’s house around 5 a.m., leading to Oliver’s arrest.
Police described his conduct as exhibiting 'unimaginable depravity.' Despite denying the charge, Oliver was convicted of attempted murder and received a lengthy sentence.
Detective Inspector Bianca Broadbent highlighted the seriousness of his actions and the victim’s terror, stating she believed she was going to die that night and even attempted to leave a scratch mark on Oliver to help identify him if she died.
