HULL MAN JAILED FOR MANSLAUGHTER OF GIRLFRIEND AFTER YEARS OF ABUSE
Andrew Maling, 47 years old from Sigglesthorne near Hull, was convicted of manslaughter for causing the death of his girlfriend, Amy Gough. At Nottingham Crown Court in June, he received an initial sentence of 10 years imprisonment.
The incident was linked to a history of domestic violence, with Maling causing severe injuries over a number of years.
Amy Gough, aged 34 and from Sandiacre, Derbyshire, died on 29 March 2015 from stomach injuries he caused before calling 999 later that month.
The court recognized his long-standing violent behavior and increased his sentence to 15 years following an appeal.
It emphasized that domestic violence should be regarded as a serious aggravating element, which must influence sentencing.
Her family, especially her mother Christine, expressed that she was a caring, beautiful, and warm person, and she mourned her loss profoundly.
The appeal court concluded that the original 10-year sentence was inadequate and extended it by five years, noting that the attack took place over several days and was part of an ongoing pattern of abuse.
The Attorney General commented, 'This was one of many violent acts perpetrated by the offender over the years, and this attack lasted multiple days.
I hope this increased sentence offers some comfort to Ms Gough's family during this challenging time.'
