ANDREW LUBY, THE DANGEROUS WOODHAM PAEDOPHILE, SENTENCED IN GUILDFORD
In a significant crackdown on online child exploitation, Andrew Luby, a 56-year-old man from Woodham, has been sentenced to six and a half years in prison following a series of serious criminal charges. The sentencing took place on Friday, June 22, at Guildford Crown Court, where Luby was found guilty of a total of 23 offences related to his predatory behavior.Authorities launched a detailed investigation into Luby’s activities after reports emerged that he, already registered as a sex offender, was actively engaging in online communications, including text messages and telephone calls, with the apparent intent of arranging sexual encounters with a child under the age of 13. The investigation uncovered disturbing evidence of his attempts to facilitate sexual activity with a minor, which led to his arrest and subsequent prosecution.
On May 15, Luby was convicted of multiple charges, including three counts of attempting to encourage or assist in the commission of sexual acts with a child under 13. The court also found that he possessed indecent images of children as well as extreme pornography, further highlighting the severity of his offenses. Additionally, Luby was found to be in breach of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO), which was put in place to restrict his activities and prevent further harm.
Luby, who is a national of the Czech Republic, was formally arrested and charged on May 31, 2011, in connection with these offences. The investigation was described as complex and extensive, involving a large team of Surrey Police officers, as well as colleagues from other law enforcement agencies across the United Kingdom and representatives from the Czech Republic. Detective Inspector Paul Gordon, of Surrey Police’s Paedophile Online Investigation Team, emphasized the seriousness of the case, stating, “Luby is a dangerous sexual predator who was found guilty of 23 offences as a result of our rigorous approach to managing sex offenders. This was a complex and protracted investigation that required significant resources and collaboration.”
He further explained that police surveillance confirmed Luby’s attempts to arrange sexual activity with a child under 13, which led to his arrest, charging, and remand in custody to prevent any further risk to the public. The police’s proactive measures ensured that Luby could not pose a threat to children or the community.
Neil Sweet, the senior district crown prosecutor for the Crown Prosecution Service South East, praised the efforts of the law enforcement agencies, saying, “Today, a dangerous sex offender has been imprisoned thanks to a thorough international and local investigation by Surrey Police. The CPS and Surrey Police have worked together efficiently and effectively to bring Andrew Luby to justice for his deceitful crimes and calculated actions.”
