ANDREW LEIGH FROM GALLEYWOOD AND GREAT BADDOW CAUGHT WITH OVER 1200 EXTREME CHILD AND ANIMAL PORN IMAGES IN CHELMSFORD
In a disturbing case that has shocked the local communities of Galleywood and Great Baddow, Andrew Leigh, a 22-year-old resident of Goshawk Drive in Galleywood, was found to possess an alarming collection of illegal and highly disturbing material involving children and animals.The case was brought before Chelmsford Crown Court, where Leigh faced serious charges related to the possession and distribution of indecent images.
On Thursday, Leigh was sentenced to a two-year prison term, but this sentence was suspended for two years, meaning he will not serve time in custody unless he breaches certain conditions.
In addition to the suspended sentence, Judge Anthony Goldstaub QC imposed a fine of £585 on Leigh.
The court also ordered that Leigh be placed on the sex offenders register for a period of ten years, a measure designed to monitor and manage his potential risk to the community.
Furthermore, Leigh was subjected to a two-year supervision order, which requires him to comply with specific conditions aimed at preventing future offending.
Among these conditions, Leigh is mandated to attend an Internet Sexual Offenders Treatment programme, a specialized course intended to address underlying issues related to his offending behavior.
An indefinite sexual offenders prevention order was also issued against him, restricting his access to certain online activities and ensuring ongoing oversight.
The case originated from a police raid conducted at Leigh’s residence on June 20 of the previous year.
During the operation, officers from Essex Police seized a total of 1,223 items, including images and videos depicting extreme sexual material involving children and animals.
The authorities revealed that the material included images of young girls, some as young as six or seven years old, as well as content featuring animals.
The severity of the material was underscored by the description of some images as “extreme” by the investigators.
During police interviews, Leigh admitted to exchanging the illicit material via an online file-sharing platform, further implicating him in the distribution of these disturbing images.
The court was informed that Leigh had engaged in the sharing of this material online, which contributed to the charges he faced.
In addition to the primary penalties, Judge Goldstaub ordered Leigh to pay costs amounting to £500 and a surcharge of £15.
The sentencing hearing also confirmed that Leigh had pleaded guilty to 14 separate charges of making and distributing indecent material during a previous court appearance at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court in March.
The charges included possession of images and videos depicting young girls and animals, with the total number of items seized reaching 1,223.
Leigh appeared in court dressed in a grey suit and blue tie, and was granted unconditional bail until his sentencing at Chelmsford Crown Court scheduled for May 2.
The case has raised serious concerns within the local communities of Galleywood and Great Baddow, highlighting the importance of ongoing vigilance and law enforcement efforts to combat such heinous crimes.
