RAWTHORPE MAN SENTENCED FOR ASSAULT ON WIFE AFTER AFFAIR DISPUTE
A RAWTHORPE man attacked his wife after she confronted him over his affair, a court heard.
Andrew Lawrence, of Rawthorpe Crescent, appeared before District Judge Marie Mallon sitting in Huddersfield yesterday.
He admitted assaulting Christine Lawrence, his wife of 12 years, at their home on April 28.
Kirklees Magistrates Court heard that the couple had been at home drinking when an argument ensued over the defendant having been unfaithful.
Clare Benson, prosecuting, said: “The complainant told him to leave, he asked for his mobile phone and she refused to give it to him.” She said Lawrence, 49, stood up, pushed his wife onto the sofa and punched her several times in the face.
Mrs Lawrence received cuts and bruises, swollen eyes, and a sore nose.
Lawrence pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
Ian Whiteley, mitigating, said that his client only remembered some of the incident.
The couple had since been reconciled.
Judge Mallon gave Lawrence a community order for 12 months including an activity requirement and alcohol treatment programme for six months.
