MAN SENTENCED TO OVER SIX YEARS FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AFTER COURT SHOW OF STRENGTH
A man named Andrew Kontny, aged 36 and residing in Edwin Street, Daybrook, pleaded guilty to multiple charges of violence.He was convicted and sentenced to a total of five years six months for grievous bodily harm with intent, 16 months consecutively for actual bodily harm, and one month concurrently for damaging property.
The victim, a woman who chose to remain anonymous, faced her attacker in court and read out her victim impact statement, describing the experience as empowering and life-changing.
She stated, "I feel really free, a weight has been lifted.
I feel strong for the first time in a very long time because the truth has come out and I have stood up for myself." The woman also emphasized the importance of women recognizing the signs of abuse and encouraged others to leave abusive relationships.
The offender's actions were part of an ongoing pattern of domestic violence, which was thoroughly investigated by Nottinghamshire Police.
Detective Constable Mike Powis commented on the case, highlighting the seriousness of domestic violence and the courage of victims in coming forward.
