ANDREW KERR FROM DUNOON INVOLVED IN CHILD ABUSE SCANDAL AT RAF BASES AND BEYOND
In March 2021, a disturbing case emerged involving Andrew Kerr, a former serviceman with ties to Dunoon, who has been linked to heinous acts of child abuse and exploitation. Kerr, who served in the Royal Air Force for a decade, was assessed by experts as a significant threat to public safety, particularly concerning the safety of children. A forensic psychologist described Kerr as posing a 'high risk' to the community, warning that his behavior could potentially result in severe injuries or even fatalities among children.During a court hearing at Dundee Sheriff Court, Kerr expressed dissatisfaction with the assessments made by Dr. Lorraine Johnstone, a forensic psychologist. His solicitor, John Kilcoyne, conveyed Kerr’s concerns, stating, “He is entirely concerned about the views of Dr. Johnstone. She indicated he is high risk. Mr. Kerr would like to speak to her again.” Despite Kerr’s objections, Sheriff Alistair Carmichael pointed out that two separate reports both indicated that Kerr posed a potentially lethal danger to children. The sheriff emphasized, “The report states he constitutes a risk to others, either physical or psychological, and there is a real possibility that babies or children could sustain severe or fatal injuries.”
As a result, the court deferred sentencing to allow further assessment by social workers from Argyll and Bute Council. The sheriff also mentioned the possibility of imposing a lifelong restriction order on Kerr, reflecting the gravity of his actions and the threat he poses.
Kerr’s criminal activities are deeply disturbing. He paid women to sit on babies until they screamed in agony, seeking sexual gratification from these cruel acts. Kerr deceived women into sending him videos of these acts by claiming he was a documentary filmmaker and stuntman. His manipulative tactics included meeting a woman named Gemma McFee, a former nursery assistant and mother of twins from Barry, Wales, whom he convinced to perform these acts for money. Kerr told her that the more bizarre and cruel the videos, the more she would be paid. McFee complied, sending him seven videos of her sitting on babies, with some footage showing her increasing her weight on the children’s bodies and even on their heads.
Further investigations revealed Kerr’s attempts to incite other women to carry out similar acts. He encouraged a second woman to sit on children in Elgin, offering her £65 to ‘squash’ a child, although this meeting never materialized. Kerr’s activities extended beyond the UK, with devices found at RAF bases in Lossiemouth and Cyprus containing a total of 102 images and 67 videos depicting children being abused, some involving adults crushing or sitting on children. Military authorities uncovered a stash of child sexual abuse images during a search of his room, which he admitted to possessing after being confronted with the evidence. Kerr’s online activities were traced back to his room in Cyprus, where he confessed, “I am guilty of the offences. I have done it since my mother died.”
In June 2018, Kerr made contact with a woman in Arbroath, again claiming to be a film stuntman, and persuaded her to carry out similar acts on children for payment. He provided her with detailed instructions and sent her a video demonstrating how he wanted the acts performed. The woman uploaded seven videos, which initially showed children laughing but quickly turned to distress as the women applied more weight. Kerr’s messages suggested he was encouraging her to make a montage for profit, saying, “If you do the scene a couple of times, we can give you advice. If you make it a couple of times you could make it into a montage which would make you more money. Get a good holiday from it haha.”
Authorities also uncovered plans to incite another woman in Elgin to carry out similar acts, with Kerr again posing as a stuntman and offering to pay her to sit on a child. This arrangement was set to take place at Elgin Railway Station but was ultimately never carried out. The investigation traced Kerr’s IP address to his residence in Cyprus, confirming his involvement.
Devices seized from his home in Dunoon and his room in Cyprus contained a disturbing collection of indecent images and videos of children being abused, including some involving adults crushing or sitting on children. Kerr admitted to police that he had been involved in these activities since his mother’s death. He pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including inciting and possessing indecent images of children, with offenses spanning from November 2012 to July 2018 at RAF Lossiemouth, RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus, and locations in Dunoon and Elgin.
Despite the severity of his crimes, Kerr’s case remains ongoing, with sentencing deferred until September. He has been placed on the sex offender’s register, and bail continues to be in effect. The case highlights the disturbing extent of Kerr’s activities and the ongoing efforts of authorities to address and prevent such heinous crimes against children.
