In a case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Sedbergh and the wider Cumbria region, Andrew Folks, a 70-year-old retired clergyman, was sentenced to eight months in prison for serious sexual offenses involving a teenage boy.The incident took place while Folks was serving as the priest-in-charge of Langdale, a position of significant trust and responsibility within the local church community.
According to court records, the abuse occurred when the victim, a 15-year-old boy, was visiting Folks at his residence in Sedbergh.

He stated, “The court appearance marks the end of a police investigation which only began due to the bravery of the victim and his family who had the strength to come forward and report what had happened all those years ago.
This takes remarkable strength and they have remained our focus throughout the investigation.” He further added, “Cumbria police take allegations of sexual offences extremely seriously – no matter when the offences were committed.
