CONVICTED SEX OFFENDER ANDREW EYRE JAILED FOR HISTORIC ABUSE OF YOUNG GIRLS AS A TEENAGER
A sexual offender named Andrew Eyre has been sentenced to prison for abusing young girls during his teenage years, with the offenses taking place in the Wirral area in the late 1990s and early 2000s.Eyre, now 39, was sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court after pleading guilty to multiple counts of indecent assault of a child and one of gross indecency with a child.
The court heard that Eyre sexually abused two young girls, both of primary school age, when he was also a teenager.
One victim reported the abuse to Merseyside Police in 2023, revealing that the assault happened more than twenty years prior, and during the investigation, a second victim recounted her experience of abuse by Eyre.
Neither of the victims understood the severity or wrongfulness of his actions at the time because of their ages, and Eyre told one of them that the incidents were 'our secret.' Eyre was arrested in February of the previous year and answered 'no comment' during police interviews.
An impact statement from one of the victims described the devastating effects on her mental health, including flashbacks, anxiety, and nightmares, which she feels have lifelong consequences.
She stated, 'It has had a devastating impact on my mental health.
I have had flashbacks, crippling anxiety, and nightmares.
The impact of this is lifelong, and I still live with the consequences every day.' The second victim also expressed how the abuse affected her self-esteem.
Eyre has no prior convictions and was described by his defense as remorseful and immature at the time of the offenses, with some behavior that could be considered rape under current laws.
He has since built a career in IT development and engaged in charity work, and was characterized as kind, thoughtful, and intelligent by character references.
The judge acknowledged Eyre's remorse and the fact that he has not reoffended since his youth, but also recognized the lifelong impact on the victims.
Eyre was sentenced to two and a half years in prison, of which he will serve half before being released on license.
Additionally, he has to sign the sex offender register for life, follow a sexual harm prevention order for five years, and respect indefinite restraining orders issued to the victims.
