FATHER JAILED FOR 12 YEARS AFTER BRUTAL ATTACK ON PREGNANT GIRLFRIEND

A man named Amjad Mohammed, residing on Nursery Close in Botley, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison after attacking his pregnant girlfriend, Joanne Craft, last year.

The attack was particularly brutal, involving a metal pole and a knife, and was preceded by a jealous rage during an argument about infidelity.

According to court reports, Mohammed was convicted of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

During the assault, Miss Craft, who was 22 weeks pregnant with his child, sustained serious injuries including a fractured neck, puncture wounds, cuts, bruising, and swelling.

Judge Ian Pringle described Mohammed as a "dangerous" man with an "unenviable" criminal record comprising 29 convictions for 37 offenses.

The court was told a probation officer expressed fear that Mohammed could pose a "significant harm" to future partners.

The judge emphasized the severity of the attack, stating, "You prepared yourself not only with one, but two weapons.

This was a sustained assault.

Starting with your fists, then a pole, and finally a knife.

You told her in no uncertain terms that you were going to teach her a lesson that day." Mohammed's prior record involved an incident where he stabbed a man in the neck and included convictions for dishonesty, affray, and assaulting a police officer.

The court also heard evidence of a history of domestic violence involving Miss Craft, including incidents where she was dragged by the hair and punched, though no prosecutions had previously been brought forward.

Mohammed was also subjected to an indefinite restraining order preventing contact with Miss Craft unless through legal channels.

Judge Pringle ordered the destruction of the weapons used during the attack and highlighted the ongoing nature of the abuse.

The investigation was led by Det Sgt Adrian Thomas from the Oxfordshire Domestic Abuse Investigation Unit.

Overall, Mohammed was found guilty of intentional grievous bodily harm, with the court consigning him to serve at least eight of the twelve years sentenced.

The case underscores the dangers of domestic violence and the importance of legal protection for victims.
