South London Man Charged With Elderly Pensioner's Murder

A man has been charged with murder after an 85-year-old man was found dead at a property in south London, police have confirmed. Officers responded to an emergency call at approximately 1pm on Friday, reporting that an elderly individual had suffered serious injuries at an address on Churchmore Road in Streatham. Upon arrival, the victim, who has not been publicly named, was discovered with multiple injuries and was declared dead at the scene. The police force has stated: "Despite the best efforts of emergency services, the man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene." A post-mortem examination is scheduled. The victim’s next of kin has been informed and is being supported by specialized officers. The suspect, Amithraz Balgobin, aged 36, of Woodbourne Avenue in Lambeth, has been detained nearby and formally charged on Sunday with murder along with possession of Class A and Class B drugs. He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear at Bromley Magistrates' Court on Monday. This incident highlights a tragic case of violence involving an elderly individual in the area.
