NORTHALL WOMAN JAILED FOR NEGLECTING NEARLY 60 DOGS
A woman from Buckinghamshire who kept almost 60 dogs in "appalling conditions" has been banned from keeping animals for life.
Amanda Hammond, 66, was sentenced to a 16-week suspended prison sentence at Aylesbury Magistrates Court on Monday after admitting charges related to animal suffering.
Hammond, of Slapton Lane, Northall, was found to have kept her dogs in conditions described as filthy and unhygienic, with many living as a pack in insecure pens or inside her home contaminated with urine and faeces.
The RSPCA inspectors discovered the dogs in June, many with hair loss and skin issues, and most were terrified and not used to handling.
Hammond did not know the exact number of dogs she possessed.
She pleaded guilty to failing to meet the welfare needs of 47 dogs, and to causing unnecessary suffering by neglecting veterinary care for two dogs.
Additionally, she admitted to confining 11 dogs inside a cottage under poor conditions and causing unnecessary suffering to a sheep attacked by her dogs.
Most of the dogs were rehomed, some were euthanized due to illness or aggression.
The court also ordered Hammond to complete 200 hours of unpaid work and pay costs amounting to £8,971.
Her actions were condemned by RSPCA inspector Kirsty Withnall, who stated, "The conditions in which these dogs were kept in were appalling.
It was unfair for them to be kept in such conditions."
