ALWYN JONES, TARVIN, APPEARS IN COURT FOR FAILURE TO UPDATE ADDRESS

In June 2007, Alwyn Jones, a registered sex offender from High Street, Tarvin, faced court after neglecting to notify police of his current address. Jones, who served an eight-year prison sentence starting in 1997 for serious sexual offenses, was legally required to report annually to Chester Police Station to verify his address.

However, he failed to do so in March, prompting his arrest. Jones appeared before Chester Crown Court on Monday, having previously admitted to the charge of failing to comply with the sex offender register.

During the hearing, defense lawyer Simon Mills explained that there had been a misunderstanding. Police had visited Jones last June, leading him to believe he wouldn't need to register again until that June. Mr. Mills stated, “He had not changed address, police found him where he was registered already. There is no sign of any future sexual offending or return to that lifestyle.

He added, “My client has done remarkably well in his life since being released from prison. He says that prison works – before being convicted he could not read or write. He passed several courses in the eight years and since his release has constantly been employed. He also has a partner, a respectable, hard-working woman who knows everything about his past and stands by him.”

Jones was fined £1,500 and ordered to pay £100 in costs.
